What is the difference between IELTS Academic and General training

By Jumoke Odepe
Which IELTS test is for me? Academic or General IELTS
The IELTS Academic and General Training are the two versions of the IELTS English Test. Test takers have the choice to choose either of the two based on their goals.

Academic IELTS

The rule of thumb is that you choose the Academic IELTS if your goal is to study or train in a university that teaches in English at graduate or postgraduate level. The test accesses whether or not you are ready to start training in an English speaking environment of higher learning.

In other words, if you are taking the IELTS English language proficiency test to get admission into a university where the English language is the language of instruction, then you should consider taking the Academic version.

IELTS General Training

The IELTS General Training test measures the English Language proficiency used in daily life. Test takers opt for this version if they are going to English speaking countries for training, work experience or to school at a secondary school education level. The General Training is a visa requirement if you are migrating to countries such as Canada, New Zealand, and Australia.

In other words, if you are taking the IELTS English language proficiency test for migration purposes, then you should consider taking the General Training version.

The Things You Know About People Of African descent

Photo by Jackson David from Pixbay

What you think about blacks people of African descent is from negative media shared for centuries

"Slaves". "Son of a slave". "Generation of slaves." How convenient

What you weren't told though

Is that "slaves" are stolen humans from Africa

Kidnapped, trafficked, traded, stolen - synonyms

By who? Do you mean who stole them? Google "the book of Negroes," read or watch the movie

that "slaves" had fathers, mothers, aunts, uncles, and dogs... just like you

that with each stolen "slave," African families were broken, mothers went berserk, lost their minds,        they died insane, searching for their missing families

that "slaves" came from established African cultures and kingdoms

that some blacks you see still hurt from the intrusion
most just want to find their roots, you took that from them

that after "slaves" were stolen from Africa
things fell apart, the center has refused to hold

So, next time you say the word "slaves," do think deeply

Next time you see a person of  African descent, think deeply

Now that you are more informed

Go do the right thing.

Year of the woman

Women should rule. Politics. Non-Partisan. Equal voice
Women will rule in every country in...

on a beautiful day.
in a few moons from now.
women will rule in.
every country in.
every continent of.
the world.

end child soldiering.
ceasefire here.
ceasefire there.
ceasefire. yup.
stop human trafficking.
modern-day slavery.

calm the storms.
stop the wars.
rule with intuition.
balance. justice. equity.
rule of law.
peace on earth.

on a beautiful day.
in a few moons from now.
women must rule in.
every country in.
every continent of.
the world.

Chin up. No one is quite like you.

Easy to circle the web.
Easy to get confused.
Easy to feel you're small.
Easy to xerox them

I'm looking at you and
I can boldly say
Chin up. Head high.
No one is quite like you.

Ageless Beauty

when you want.
you come in as harmattan,
you come in as snow.
when you want.
you come in as rain,
you come in as spring.
when you want.
you come in as summer,
you come in as fall.
you turn the sun to us, we have day.
then the moon, we have night.
your years. your years, they no know end.

in this techy fast-paced world
everyone has 2 billion answers for everything

remember this.

you're not a slowpoke
you're not a slacker
you're not a scaredy-cat

live from within.

you are unique
you've got this
you are enough.

by the time the day was done,
i had visited the most liked poems on the internet.
seen the most viewed writers in the world-wide-web.
i sank into my bed,
and wept in quiet desperation.

nurse's daughter

To our frontline workers. A poem to all nurses

to all the nurses
those who bore us and those who didn't

to all the nurses
those who know more than doctors and those who don't

to all the nurses,
those who day shift and those who night

nurses are to doctors what law clerks are to lawyers
they make the professional fly and take less credit

in the name of my mother, a nurse indeed
i say thank you to all
the nurses on earth.
