ABOUT | The Light Within
What began as a simple blog during my maternity leave 16 years ago has grown into a lifelong passion. Back then, I needed an outlet—a place to pour out my creativity in its rawest form. I shared joy, gratitude, inspiration, frustration, anger, and everything in between. I named it Jumi Odepe Writes, and it quickly became a home for my thoughts during one of the most transformative seasons of my life.

What started as a personal journal slowly evolved into a sanctuary for anyone needing a reminder that healing, hope and peace of mind are still possible. As the years passed, the platform grew alongside me. With time came clarity in my writing. I discovered a deep love for encouraging others.
That’s why I reimagined this platform as The Light Within (TLW). A simple name with a simple mission: To hold space for your heart. To offer hope and inspiration. To remind you that you are never alone. To share the radiant light within me with you. To share as many things as I wish to share with you. To share some of the light within me - with you.
Because whether you're across the world or right next door, these words are here to reach you—right where you are.

About Me
By day, I’m a dedicated lawyer navigating legal complexities with clients and by night, I'm a passionate writer, using words to uplift, inspire, and bring hope. Through my writings, I share heartfelt messages of resilience and encouragement, reminding my readers that light can always be found even in the darkest moments.
I also have a deep love for African stories and perspectives. I strive to tell African narratives with authenticity and respect, illuminating the richness and strength of the continent beyond stereotypes and misconceptions.
My writing is a bridge between two worlds — the structured rigour of law and the boundless freedom of creativity — united by a desire to empower and inspire.

I received my Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Ife, Nigeria, and my Master of Laws degree at the University of Ottawa, Canada.

When I’m not writing, you'll find me hiking, somewhere in the Great Outdoors, being a wife to Ky, being a mom to two incredible humans or being a daughter to my Octogenarian mom.
