The Hidden Side Effect of Remote Work (And How I Fixed It!)

remote work and exercise

I became fully remote after COVID-19, and honestly, I love it. Working from home has been one of the best changes in my career—no long commutes, more flexibility, more family time and the comfort of my own space. Bliss!

But about two years into remote life, I noticed something troubling. My arms were getting softer, my dresses were getting tighter, and my seams were threatening rebellion. What was happening to me?!

If you work virtually like I do and have also been wondering why the scale seems to be creeping up, wonder no more. It’s one of the sneaky dividends of remote work! We sit at our desks all day, barely moving, and worst of all—we have unlimited access to the kitchen. A snack here, a nibble there, and before you know it… well, let’s just say the weight adds up fast.

Meet My Remote Work Lifesaver: Walk at Home and Rick Bhullar!

Enter Coach "Walk at Home." No, this isn’t a paid ad—I just love sharing what works for me with my readers! I started following the Walk at Home workouts on YouTube, and the difference has been amazing. My arms feel firmer, I have more energy, and I actually enjoy moving again.

To be completely honest, I’m not a big fan of exercise. But this program makes it simple, fun, and easy to fit into my routine. And if you’re a fully remote worker like me, trust me—you need to start incorporating movement into your day. Even if it’s just three times a week, it makes a huge difference.

I’ve linked one of my favourite Walk at Home workouts above; there are other options on their YouTube channel. Find what works for you, get moving, and keep remote work from sneaking those extra pounds onto you!

If you are more advanced and want to complete 7,500 steps or 10,000 at once, the video below is my favourite find:
