Which IELTS test is for me? Academic or General IELTS
The IELTS Academic and General Training are the two versions of the IELTS English Test. Test takers have the choice to choose either of the two based on their goals.

Academic IELTS

The rule of thumb is that you choose the Academic IELTS if your goal is to study or train in a university that teaches in English at graduate or postgraduate level. The test accesses whether or not you are ready to start training in an English speaking environment of higher learning.

In other words, if you are taking the IELTS English language proficiency test to get admission into a university where the English language is the language of instruction, then you should consider taking the Academic version.

IELTS General Training

The IELTS General Training test measures the English Language proficiency used in daily life. Test takers opt for this version if they are going to English speaking countries for training, work experience or to school at a secondary school education level. The General Training is a visa requirement if you are migrating to countries such as Canada, New Zealand, and Australia.

In other words, if you are taking the IELTS English language proficiency test for migration purposes, then you should consider taking the General Training version.
